Well after 2 months and more then a few dollars I converted this beautiful cap and ball revolver
To this 45 colt firing Gus gun from Lonesome Dove:

I can't wait to take it to the range, it will be a hoot. The gun ways 4 1/2 lbs. so it woun't kick at all. I'm happy with the work done on it and am already planing another conversion, this time a 1849 colt pocket 31 cal. to 32 Smith & Wesson. Sorry the photo's are not very good, will take some outside when I get a chance. Now for a holster and belt!

Now all we need are all the particulars.  Who makes the cylinder. How much for the conversion.  How does it shoot ?  How soon can you send it to me for testing ?

Very nice, Don. When you get the chance to take some shots, I am interested as to how the smith handled the loading ramp gate. It appears from your pictures that it is a square shape that rotates up to block the cases. I may be wrong, I was once! LOL!!!

You have a great addition there to your collection. Congratulations!!

Sunset, there is no loading gate. He ground the recoil shield for loading but no gate. when the gun is fired the rounds at the right where you load or not in line with the loading grove [for lack of another name] I don't know why there is no gate on this? I will take some photos of it later with the new cylinder off the gun so you can see what it like because I can not explane.

OK, First the new cylinder/ Converter was from a"KIRST KONVERTER" and the work was done "RAVENS ROOST" in Gatesville Tx. The cylinter/converter was $342.00, labor [cutting recoil shield] was $65.00 and $15.00 shipping.
Now to show some of what was done. 1ST photo is the old cap and ball cylinder with the new cylinder and the converter. Next is new cylinder/converter togeather. next is converter on gun, then converter/cylinder on gun. Last is a picture of the gun all togeather at full cock so you can see the location of the chambers during firing. I hope this explanes things a little better then I can.

Beautiful shot's, now I can see that there is no loading ramp gate. So, do you take the cylinder out to punch out the empties, or will you use something else while the cylinder is in place after firing?

Again, that is a great weapon Don, and will you please assure Woody that I will pass it on to him after I am through doing my testing!!!

Sunset, I will use a brass cleaning rod to punch out empties, the gun is large enought to do that with out any trouble.
Woody, you and Sunset play nice!!!
